The design draws on the nostalgia of the 1920’s golden day of travel, the love affair with the automobile and locomotive, and the romantic notion of adventure post-industrial revolution. A bespoke LINLEY marquetry map adorns the back wall and forms a fitting backdrop to the elegant transatlantic style chairs.

THE BRIEF
THE CLARIDGES MAP
Four hundred man hours went into creating this masterpiece of marquetry. Constructed in Macassar ebony and walnut, the veneers have been arranged to provide contrast and to represent the different time zones across the world, alluding to the idea of travel and exploration, creating an exotic bravura backdrop to this dark and moody, gloriously decadent hub of a room.
THE DETAILS
Offset by the moody dark woods and red fabrics are flares of silver which evoke images of metal engines and machinery: the polished stainless steel detailing, the silver leafing on the wall, the silver embroidery on the silk blinds and the polished chrome of the floor lights
